We all get them, sales calls... They phone up, tell you how great they are, you say you're not interested, they then proceed to convince you otherwise... well today that didn't happen, instead quite the opposite...
It started off like any other call, they introduced themselves and their company but instead of launching off in to a big speech about how wonderful they were, I was asked a few brief, but well targeted questions about my company... and then to my surprise they said "thank you for your time, at this stage we don't think we can be of use to you" and hung up.... Well I was a bit shocked, my first reaction was to think it was some kind of con.. I looked the company name up and whilst I was trawling through their website we got an email via our website...
"Thank you for taking the time to speak to me today. I am not sending this to introduce ourselves as I do not feel our services would be of interest at the moment after our conversation. However after reading the "fight ugliness" campaign wanted to comment on how good I thought your website is for such a young company. Most web design companies I look at have appalling websites and can't believe people go to them. Yours is clean and fresh and sells your company well. I am also impressed by the campaign and think it is an ingenious sales tool and well help company prosper. Whoever thought it up, well done.
I wish Blossom Digital all the success in the future, you look like you deserve it."
So Russell, if you're reading, thank you!
Now the cynical might think it's just an elaborate sales ploy, well for me it worked, this time round... I'll certainly remember them and be quite happy to talk to them next time they call...
Other sales teams should take note, the more you go on, the less I'm going to listen....
