As increasing numbers of people look to the internet to do their shopping, having an online presence as a retailer has never been more important, or perhaps even vital, for growth and continued market success. As e-commerce solutions become more accessible and easier to implement the argument for utilising them gets stronger. The bottom line: if you sell, you should sell online.

After months of planning, development, and testing the thinklocal site is now live.

" ‘Think Local’ is a rapidly developing initiative to promote business in Staffordshire by nurturing opportunities for inter-trading amongst local businesses and to encourage public sector bodies and larger commercial organisations to recognise the benefits of using local suppliers. "

Created and managed by Blossomdigital on behalf of 8 district councils the site aims to be a central, clear point of reference for information about business support, business opportunities and general business related information.

The site provides businesses with a free online profile which allows B2B networking, advertising and the ability to post business news and events.

SEO and the power of blogs

Adding a blog to your website will ensure you have a continually updated source of content littered with keywords for google to find. Updating this blog on a regular basis ensures that the content is always fresh - after relevant content there is nothing google likes more than fresh content…

Google ranks sites on several different factors but perhaps the easiest to address is keywords. When someone types a keyword or phrase into google it scans through its index of sites known to contain those terms and presents the results - ranked on relevance (among other things).

As mentioned in a previous post, blogs do more than just provide an outlet for your company - they are a very useful tool for Search Engine Optimisation.

(SEO and the workings of google are vast subjects in their own right and so are not discussed in detail here but there are a few basics it is worth bearing in mind. Please Contact Us for more information).

A CMS or Content Management System keeps track of each individual piece of content on your site. From simple text and images through to video and interactive media, whatever you want to present to the world, we have the tools to do it.

The blossomdigital team have a comprehensive knowledge of the Joomla! system and can work with you to incorporate your company branding by creating bespoke templates and can install, configure, modify and even create custom modules to give you the functionality you need.

The Joomla! system is based around a core framework which is responsible for all the basic functionality of the site. On top of this core sits the extension layer comprised of Templates, Modules and Components: Templates determine the design and aesthetics of a site whilst Modules and Components add functionality. As Joomla! is an open-source piece of software new extensions are always being created and updated, at present there are over 6000 extensions, meaning whatever you want your website to be able to do - Joomla! can do it

A good return on your investment

We completed a new web site for local business Beautiful Gardens (www.beautifulgardens.co.uk) in March 2009. It took several years for business owner Simon Roberts to take the plunge and invest in a powerful content managed web site. He now has a forum for keeping his customers up to date with developments in his company and to inform potential customers about his full range of services. We have worked with Simon to create a web design suitable for his business and within 4 weeks he had picked up an order worth more than twice the cost of his web site.

It is important to see a web site as a business investment and in conjunction with search engine optimization we can help your business to make you more money and to easilly recover the cost of the web site in the first place.
